8 WWE Stars Who Could Step Up as WWE Universal Champion Amid Roman Reigns’ Injury

Dave Meltzer said today that Roman Reigns was “hurt” when he fought Jey Uso on August 5 at WWE SummerSlam.

Before we go any further, it’s important to say that we don’t yet know what kind of damage it is, how bad it is, or how it happened.

So there’s a good chance that it won’t affect Reigns’ title run, especially since he already has a light schedule.

But neither do we know that it won’t.

So far, this list is just based on what might happen in the future. We will, of course, keep you up to date, so stay tuned for any news about Reigns’ possible injury.

For now, though, let’s say that Reigns’ injury is really bad and he has to give up the title. If that happens, here are eight WWE stars who could take over as king.

8. LA KNIGHT

Let’s start with the most popular guy right now.

LA Knight might not be booked as a major event yet, but if you look at how much merchandise he sells and how many people interact with him online, it’s clear that he’s one of the most popular guys in the company right now.

He’s probably not the guy WWE would pick to beat Roman Reigns in a match, but if he can win the title without having to do that, why not?

Fans aren’t interested in anything else right now.

7. BROCK LESNAR

Brock Lesnar is the opposite of’man of the moment’ LA Knight.

Lesnar is meant to be out until next year after losing to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, but it wouldn’t be the first time he came back early if WWE wanted him back and paid him enough.

This would be a lot more possible if Vince McMahon was in charge, but Triple H is in charge right now while Vince is on medical leave, and Triple H probably wouldn’t go straight to Lesnar to save the day like Vince would.

Well, let’s hope.

6. LOGAN PAUL

Look, you guys, he’s great.

If you want to get noticed and want as many people as possible to see the big sparkly WWE logo in the middle of the belt, this is your guy.

And we know that his fights will be fun. That’s no longer even a worry.

Could it? No. But it’s probably not either.

5. GUNTHER

The only problem with Gunther having the Intercontinental Title for so long is that he hasn’t been able to move up to either of the world titles.

But September 7 is a magical date for beating records, so Gunther won’t need to hold the IC Title for long after that.

This could be your chance to move him up to the next level, similar to how LA Knight couldn’t move up because he had to beat Reigns, which almost no one has been able to do.

If you don’t have to beat Reigns, it’s a lot easier to climb up.

4. SOLO SIKOA

Keep things in Reigns’ circle is another choice.
Solo Sikoa seems to be loyal to Reigns, at least for now, so Reigns wouldn’t trust anyone else with his most prized property.

You could also have Reigns tell Sikoa to give up the title when he comes back. If Sikoa doesn’t do it, you’ve set up a big match between them.

Or he could just give it to you and you could pick up where you left off like nothing happened.

3. DAMIAN PRIEST

Because he has Money in the Bank, Damian Priest is technically the closest person to becoming world winner right now.

If Reigns can take even one bump, Priest could cash in and win the title. This would make it possible for Reigns to leave the ring.

Then you can do things related to Judgment Day, like Finn Balor being jealous that Priest has the title and everything else that goes with that.

It would be an interesting turn of events, since most people think Priest will win the Raw title instead of the SmackDown one.

2. CODY RHODES

He was on this list because he had to be, but…

It would be wrong, wouldn’t it?

He needs to beat Roman to win the whole thing. It wouldn’t make sense if he didn’t beat Roman and win the title…

So, it’s a choice, and he’s the top pretty boy in the company and all, but… no. It’s the same as when the new world title was given out a few months ago. Don’t bring Cody into it.

1. JEY USO

The man who was almost there, but his own brother turned him in.

Jey Uso having the title while Reigns can’t stop him physically gives you a chance to make Reigns angrier than he’s ever been, so when he comes back, he lets out ALL of his anger.

You turn it around so that an angry Reigns is after Jey for the title instead of the other way around.

If Reigns loses the title, Main Event Jey is probably the best choice from a story perspective.
