Heartbreaking Twist: Rey Mysterio’s Injury on WWE SmackDown Brings the Match to a Tearful Halt

Rey Mysterio encountered a distressing moment during Wwe Smackdown last night as he faced off against Santos Escobar in a riveting match for a chance to challenge Austin Theory for the United States Championship. However, the bout took an unexpected turn when Mysterio appeared to suffer a whiplash injury, bringing the contest to a premature end.

The masked legend squared off against his Latino World Order (LWO) teammate in an exhilarating match, with Theory observing from a skybox. The clash between the two LWO members was intense, but unfortunately, it reached an abrupt conclusion. During a back and forth sequence, Escobar executed a suicide dive outside the ring, causing Mysterio to crash his head on the floor as he fell backward.

After an advertisement break, the show resumed, but this time, it was focused on Mysterio receiving medical attention from a doctor. Referee Jessika Carr notified the announcer that the Hall of Famer was unable to continue, leading to a swift conclusion of the match.

Escobar was announced as the winner, securing his spot to face Theory in two weeks on SmackDown. Following the match, the two close friends embraced, displaying their mutual respect and admiration for each other.

While WWE fans expressed concern for Mysterio’s well-being and sent wishes for a speedy recovery, some questioned whether the injury was part of a storyline. However, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, the injury was legitimate, and the referee and medical personnel acted promptly to ensure Mysterio’s safety.

It was clarified that Escobar was intended to win the match regardless, though originally through a clean pinfall victory. He had previously claimed a non-title victory over Theory earlier in the year.

Mysterio’s injury adds to WWE’s woes this year, as both Liv Morgan and Kevin Owens were also sidelined due to legitimate injuries on Raw. Owens’ rib injury means he and Sami Zayn will miss defending their Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles at SummerSlam.

As of now, there have been no further updates from WWE or Mysterio himself regarding the extent of his injury. Fans eagerly await news on his recovery and future in-ring return.
