Boxing fans were taken aback by Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois’ first fight.

On August 26 in Poland, Ukraine’s heavyweight world champion will defend his WBA, IBF, and WBO belts against a British mandatory challenger.

At a press conference in Warsaw, the pair met for the first time to promote the fight.

Two fighters stood up for their first face-off after a 20-minute exchange of worads.

Usyk is of course the big favourite, but Dubois’ size advantage has been much discussed.

Listed at 6ft 5ins tall and weighing around 240lbs, the 25-year-old is a natural heavyweight.

Usyk, 36, was a natural cruiserweight before moving up to heavyweight after spending most of his career at 200 pounds.

When they locked eyes, Usyk was actually 6ft 3ins tall and weighed around 220lbs, so the size difference didn’t seem too striking.

“Size difference doesn’t even look that significant here. Usyk is going to do some truly horrible things to the guy.” commented one fan.

The ‘size difference’ is overstated, according to another observer. Usyk will weigh 15-20 pounds less than Daniel, but when you see them in the ring they won’t appear too different.”

Three others stated: “I think people are misled by Usyk’s size and label him as small. He is six feet three inches, which is more than adequate for any division.”

A fourth fan said: “Dubois isn’t that tall. He’s definitely not 6’6.”

Another said: “Usyk must be wearing high heels.”
