Aaron Ramsdale of Arsenal pokes fun at David Raya amidst Chelsea nightmare

Aaron Ramsdale has light-heartedly commented on the ongoing speculation surrounding his future at Arsenal and his competition with David Raya.

Raya, who arrived at Arsenal on loan from Brentford during the summer, has now assumed the starting goalkeeper role, relegating Ramsdale to the backup position.

While Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has publicly stated that he sees this as a rotation situation, it is widely believed that Raya is now the primary choice among the coaching staff. Consequently, rumors have linked Ramsdale with a potential transfer, with Chelsea being one of the clubs mentioned.

Both Ramsdale and Raya have publicly expressed their positive relationship in recent months. Ramsdale remains optimistic and even added a playful twist to the speculation during a training session at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground.

As Raya walked onto the training pitch on Monday, Ramsdale quickly approached him, jokingly saying, “It’s alright lads. I’m here. We’re together.”

This light-hearted moment occurred after Raya’s less-than-stellar performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea over the weekend. Raya received criticism, notably from Gary Neville during Sky Sports’ coverage of the match. Neville pointed out Raya’s recent struggles and the increased pressure on him as a goalkeeper at a top club.

In response to Neville’s comments, Mikel Arteta, speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Champions League match with Sevilla, downplayed any concerns about Raya’s performance, emphasizing the inherent pressure of playing for a big club. Arteta also highlighted that competition for positions is a natural aspect of the game, and errors can occur across different positions on the field.
