Juventus Midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has received a seven-month football ban for his involvement in betting on unauthorized platforms.
Consequently, the Italian international will sit out the remainder of the current season, as the Turin prosecutor’s office imposed this seven-month suspension due to his betting activities on illicit platforms.
The disciplinary action, issued on Tuesday, includes a 12-month ban, with five months of that period set to be served through alternative methods.
Fagioli has also been fined €12,500 (£11,000/$13,000) and will be obliged to undergo therapy as part of the punishment.
Notably, this suspension represents a significant reduction from the usual penalty stipulated for a breach of Article 24 of the Sporting Justice Code, which typically entails a three-year ban.
The final judgment was influenced by plea bargaining conducted by Fagioli’s legal team. The primary reason for the lessened penalty is Fagioli’s full cooperation with the legal authorities and his determined efforts to combat his gambling addiction.
Nevertheless, Juventus finds itself in a challenging situation as they lose yet another midfielder, with Paul Pogba facing a lengthy suspension due to a positive doping test.
The absence of these key players poses a significant setback for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who are scheduled to face AC Milan in a Serie A fixture this coming Sunday.
