Wales sensation earns ‘Gareth Bale Successor’ title with crucial double in key qualifier against Croatia

Harry Wilson channelled his inner Gareth Bale to play a pivotal role in Wales’ crucial 2-1 victory over Croatia in Cardiff on Sunday, October 15th.

On his 50th international cap, the 26-year-old Fulham forward showcased his pace and control, mirroring the iconic style of Gareth Bale. He left fans in awe when he expertly lofted the ball into the net with his left foot after a perfectly controlled header, paying homage to their greatest-ever player.

Fourteen minutes later, Wilson struck again with a perfectly executed flicked header, evoking memories of the former Tottenham and Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale, who netted 41 goals for Wales, including several headers, before retiring following the World Cup in Qatar.

In the wake of Wales holding on to their lead despite Mario Pasalic’s goal, fans took to social media to express their admiration. One fan even likened Harry Wilson to the next Gareth Bale, while another hailed Wilson’s Bale-esque performance.

Another fan humorously speculated, “Waiting for Rob Page to unmask Harry Wilson after the game to reveal its actually Gareth Bale.” Meanwhile, another echoed, “GARETH BALE IS HARRY WILSON REBORN.” and a fifth enthusiast concluded, “Harry Wilson that is vintage Gareth Bale. Lovely finish mun!”

With eight goals in 50 international appearances, Wilson has propelled Wales into the second position in Group D, leapfrogging Croatia based on their head-to-head record. Turkey leads the group with 16 points, while Wales holds 10 points, three ahead of Armenia in fourth place, with two automatic qualification spots up for grabs.

Wales’ recent success builds on their previous achievements, reaching the round of 16 in Euro 2020 and making the semifinals in 2016. This latest victory marks a significant milestone, ending their 64-year World Cup absence and securing their place in the upcoming tournament in Qatar.

Speaking after the match, Wilson shared, “It was a big night for me personally, representing my country 50 times is something I couldn’t have dreamt of.”

“Tonight wasn’t about me, it was about the team. We’re always confident in the quality we’ve got in the group.”

“We’re 100% behind the manager.”
