Italian under-21s standout Marco Nasti has been expelled from a training session following allegations of breaking a fellow teammate’s nose.
The incident led to Nasti’s removal from the team’s training camp on Friday morning, citing “disciplinary reasons,” as confirmed by manager Carmine Nunziata.
Though Nunziata refrained from disclosing the specific cause of Nasti’s departure, Italian news source ANSA reported that the Bari striker had allegedly punched Atalanta winger Matteo Ruggeri.
According to the report, Ruggeri’s nose sustained an injury during the altercation. In response to the incident, Nasti turned to social media to issue a public apology, expressing his remorse.
Nasti shared on Instagram: “I have already apologised privately, but I want to do it here too. I have great respect for the values of sport and the blue shirt.”
He continued, “I am very sorry for what happened during the national team’s retreat, this must be and will be an opportunity for growth for me.”
Nasti is presently on loan at Serie B club Bari from the prominent AC Milan. AC Milan released a statement regarding his departure, stating, “AC Milan announces the departure of Marco Nasti to SSC Bari on loan, with the latter having an option to make the transfer permanent and AC Milan having a buyback clause.”
“The Club wishes Marco all the best for the coming season.”
The Azzurrini, Italy’s under-21 national team, is concurrently participating in Euro qualifiers, mirroring the senior team’s endeavors. They are scheduled to face Norway’s under-21s in an upcoming fixture on Tuesday.
