In the event of a Decepticon threat, former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres could potentially serve as Earth’s last line of defense. This intriguing possibility arose after fans humorously suggested that the 2010 World Cup champion had the strength to “take on a transformer” following his appearance in a recent car advertisement.
Torres, known for his strong physique, was enlisted to endorse the new Ssangyong Torres, a car line manufactured by a South Korean company, which interestingly shares his last name with the Atletico Madrid product.
It’s a well-known fact that many retired professional athletes tend to gain weight in their post-playing years. However, Torres defies this trend, as he arguably appears to be in even better physical shape now than during his career, resembling a true muscle machine.
This sentiment was echoed by several of Torres’ Instagram followers after he posted a clip of his cameo in the car commercial. He captioned the post with a playful remark: “The new @ssangyonges TORRES has come to compete [for] my name. And [as for] the fact that there’s only one Torres, we’ll see. . .”
One enthusiastic supporter, in admiration of Fernando’s physique, exclaimed, “Not trying to brag, but my legend would beat up even a transformer!”
The advertisement features Torres in a moody, dimly lit setting, with dramatic lighting revealing him running on a treadmill and showcasing his chiselled frame.
There’s also a teasing shot of the tattooed footballer putting on a top before revealing his impressive physique in a vest and shorts alongside Ssangyong’s latest creation.
The connection between him and the car brand remains a bit of a mystery, but it’s clear that combining engineering prowess with a former Champions League winner and two-time Euros champion can only be a winning formula in terms of sales.
Despite retiring from professional football, Torres continues to be a prominent figure in his native Spain as a sponsor. This is noteworthy, especially considering his more than two-year stint coaching Atletico Madrid’s under-19 team.
Some of his followers even hope for Torres to eventually take over from Diego Simeone as the head coach of Atletico Madrid, although for now, he remains on standby, ever-ready for any unexpected visitors from Cybertron.
