Lionel Messi’s dedicated bodyguard, Yassine Chueko, has often appeared more robotic than human since joining forces with the Argentine superstar earlier this year. However, beneath his Terminator-like exterior lies a compassionate heart.

The MMA-trained giant, known as Yassine Chueko, was stationed by the sidelines as Messi returned from injury during Inter Miami’s recent match against Cincinnati. After the game, he swiftly positioned himself between the Ballon d’Or frontrunner and a young pitch-invader who sought a once-in-a-lifetime selfie opportunity. In a heartwarming turn of events, Chueko then guided the excited youngster over to meet his client.

Messi happily agreed and posed for a photo with the fan, who was sporting an Inter Miami jersey with Messi’s name and a Barcelona baseball cap. Chueko, never letting go of the boy’s hand, then escorted him safely into the arms of stadium security.

Fans flooded social media with praise for Chueko, applauding his role in making the young fan’s day memorable. One user wrote, “What a legend. That kid will never forget that moment.” Another added, “Bodyguard both doing his job and showing that he’s human. Perfect balance. Worth the money.”

Chueko has been vigilant in guarding Messi’s safety since the former PSG superstar joined the club in July, handpicked by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham himself. The 33-year-old stands vigil on the touchline during Messi’s matches, closely shadowing him on the field, ready to intercept starstruck pitch invaders.

He also accompanies the team to and from matches, usually positioned just a few feet behind Messi, constantly vigilant for any potential threats. Beckham hired him in response to the rising number of pitch invaders in recent years.

Unfortunately, the night ended in disappointment for Messi and Miami as their hopes of making it to the end-of-season playoffs were officially dashed following their 1-0 defeat to Cincinnati. Messi came off the bench 10 minutes into the second half, marking the first time Miami lost a match with him on the field.

Despite playing in just five MLS games, Messi earned a nomination for the division’s MVP award earlier this week—a testament to his outstanding performances. The Barcelona legend has scored 11 goals in 13 games since joining the US league and played a pivotal role in helping Miami secure their very first trophy, the Leagues Cup, back in August.
