Inter Milan fans set in motion plan to confront Romelu Lukaku following “Questionable” decision

Romelu Lukaku has received a clear warning that his return to Inter Milan at the end of this month will not be a warm and welcoming one. Despite his prior contributions to the club’s Serie A title and a Champions League final appearance, the striker should expect anything but a friendly reception from Nerazzurri fans. This follows his tumultuous departure from the club this summer.

Lukaku, aged 30, spent two years with Inter from 2019 to 2021 after transferring from Manchester United. During his time with the Italian club, he scored an impressive 64 goals in 96 games before moving to Chelsea in a £97.5 million deal. However, his second stint with Inter, which was a loan return, didn’t replicate the same success. He managed to score only 14 goals and missed crucial opportunities as the club narrowly missed out on a fourth European crown against Manchester City.

Amidst this transfer drama, Lukaku reportedly severed communication with Inter, ignoring calls and messages from club staff and teammates. Although it initially seemed like a permanent return to Inter was in the works, reports emerged of secret talks with Juventus. Eventually, when the move to Turin fell through, he ended up at Roma on another season-long loan deal.

Inter’s devoted ‘ultras’ supporters are not planning to let Lukaku forget his actions. They have acquired approximately 50,000 whistles to use in order to heckle him when Jose Mourinho’s team visits on October 29. The Curva Nord fan group has released a statement to make Lukaku fully aware of what awaits him.

“October 29 is a date we should circle in the calendar so we can be ready to let him hear all our disgust that we feel towards someone who turned his back on us in the most shameful way,” they declared. “A character who proved himself to be a small man, because before being a champion, you must be a man and know how to keep your word.”

“We defended you with swords drawn and you repaid us by turning your back. Before the game against Roma, the Curva Nord will hand out 50,000 whistles to be used at every touch of the ball from he who betrayed our jersey. Let us all show how someone who proved himself unworthy to wear this shirt ought to be treated.”

Lukaku has already scored three goals in five league games for Roma, but the team is currently struggling, with Mourinho’s squad positioned 13th in the league with just eight points from their first seven matches.
