“Napoli’s Response Following Threat of Legal Action by Victor Osimhen’s Agent Over TikTok Incident

In an unexpected turn of events, Napoli’s social media team posted a video poking fun at their star striker for his penalty request and subsequent miss during their recent goalless draw against Bologna. Following a considerable backlash, the video was eventually removed.

Roberto Calenda, representing Osimhen, issued a legal threat in response to the incident. Osimhen, despite the controversy, started and scored in a 4-1 home victory against Udinese on September 27 but refrained from celebrating his goal that made it 2-0.

The reigning Serie A champions, Napoli, have now issued a statement addressing the situation. Their statement read: “Napoli, in order to avoid any exploitation on the topic, specifies that it never intended to offend or make fun of Victor Osimhen, the club’s technical asset.”

“To demonstrate this, during the summer training camp, the club firmly rejected every offer received for the striker’s transfer abroad.”

“It is a common experience that on social media, in particular on TikTok, expressive language has always been created with lightness and creativity, without having had, in the case involving Osimhen, any intention of mockery or derision.”

“However, if Victor had perceived any offense towards him, that is not what the club intended.”

Calenda remarked earlier this week: “What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted.”

“A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news. We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor.”

Napoli’s head coach, Rudi Garcia, spoke about the situation following their victory over Udinese. He stated, “I can assure you that Victor loves this jersey. He is invested 100% in our project.”

“I have a very good relationship with Victor. I am happy for him because he scored tonight. After the match in Bologna, we were all frustrated, angry, Victor in particular, because he missed the penalty.”

“On the sporting aspect and on other levels, especially on TikTok, there have been a lot of things to manage in recent days.”
