Ferguson’s choice to join Brighton over Liverpool was grounded in a strategic outlook. He articulated that, in his view, “I went to some clubs to do skill tests. But Liverpool and Brighton were the main places where I went to try out. In addition, I also visited Manchester United and Everton. If you look at it, it is obvious that there is a path to the big team. Most managers give places to young players. The main thing is that if you go to Brighton, there is a way to get a place in the big team.”
Furthermore, Ferguson considered the long-term prospects over immediate gains. He noted, “If you go to a club like Liverpool, they can buy £60-70 million strikers at any time. Brighton likes to give academy players a place in the big team. This is the main reason. I look at the long term rather than the short term. So this was my final decision.”
