Jan-Christian Dreesen, the newly appointed CEO of Bayern Munich, has voiced his concerns regarding the potential idea of moving Champions League matches to non-European regions, following UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin’s hint at holding the final in the United States. Dreesen emphasized the importance of improving and evolving European competitions like the Champions League within their own region.

“The Champions League has been an incredibly successful tournament thus far. It remains the most captivating competition, and we must preserve the tradition of exclusively featuring European clubs. There is no need for apprehension”, Dressen remarked.

Peter Lawwell, the CEO of Celtic Football Club, echoed Dressen’s sentiments, “the need for the European Football Federation to prioritize increasing revenue in other European leagues, much like the thriving Premier League, rather than making alterations to the Champions League format.”

During a meeting of European football chief executives held in Berlin, numerous club leaders expressed their opposition to both the European Super League proposal and the notion of Moving Champions League fixtures outside of Europe. Most concurred that maintaining the exclusivity of European participation was vital, emphasizing their commitment to European football traditions.
