Man United top world rankings for squad cost from transfer fees

Man United have Spent the most to assemble the current Squad as the English Premier League side paid a heavy sum of a world-topping £991.7m.

The figures come from a new CIES Football Observatory report that has provided squad cost and player values for ages.

In the report, Premier League clubs dominate as Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, and three other clubs are in the top 10.

It’s significant to know that Man United have spent more money on assembling their current squad than any other football club.

CIES revealed that the current crop of players at Old Trafford have cost a world-topping—£ 991.7m.

Sitting at second is Chelsea, who spent—£ 977.9m.

Breakdown of how Man United spent by positions

CIES also breaks down the lucrative sum of £330.3m that the Red Devils spent on their current defenders. Harry Maguire stood out as the most expensive defender, so Man United paid £78.3 million to get him from Leicester in 2019.

The English centre-back has always been in the spotlight since he arrived at Old Trafford, and it was not for good reasons. Maguire is considered the weakest position in Man United’s current squad and was almost sold to West Ham during the 2023 Summer transfer window.

Only PSG have spent more than Man United on current forwards.

Real Madrid splashed the most cash on their new-look midfield – having spent £115m on Jude Bellingham alone during this summer transfer window.

Man United spent the most on current squad

Italy’s Serie A ranked second for overall representation with 15 teams, followed by Europe’s remaining ‘big five’ leagues: La Liga in Spain (12), Ligue 1 in France, and the Bundesliga in Germany (11).

The Saudi Pro League was represented by four teams and soared into joint-sixth spot – level with the EFL Championship – after the league’s explosive summer transfer window.

All four clubs are owned by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, who also own Newcastle – splashing a combined £685.3m on recruits this summer, according to Transfermarkt figures.M
