Manchester United‘s stars suffered a night to forget during their 3-2 to Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
The Red Devils suffered their second loss of the Champions League group stage after goals from Wilfried Zaha, Mauro Icardi and Kerem Akturkoglu for the visitors.
Amid the five goals, there was disaster at the back for United as Andre Onana’s sloppy pass gifted an opportunity to Galatasaray.
Casemiro attempted to slide in and win the ball, however, gave away a penalty and received a red card for his actions.

MANCHESTER UNITED (4-2-3-1)
Andre Onana – 4.5
What is it with mistakes on the Champions League stage for Manchester United? His error in Munich set the tone and he was at fault for poor distribution before Casemiro gave the penalty away and got sent off.
Diogo Dalot – 5.5
Got bullied by Wilfried Zaha from a long ball over the top that led to the equaliser. Recovered well in the second half to limit the former Crystal Palace man but got taught a lesson in the first 45.
Raphael Varane – 6
Got the better of Mauro Icardi for the most part and seems to be able to slow the game down when others become frantic. This defence won’t be fixed overnight but keeping him fit is crucial for United moving forward.
Victor Lindelof – 5.5
Looked to be in for an assured night but he unravelled alongside Amrabat to his left. Galatasaray targeted that side and the Swede didn’t cover himself in glory losing Icardi for the winning goal.
Sofyan Amrabat – 4.5
Shows real moments of promise and drifts infield to influence the attack and midfield… but ultimately he’s a midfielder at left back and Galatasaray’s second and third goals came down his side. This one again showed upcoming opponents the Amrabat blueprint. Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia cannot come back soon enough to allow the Moroccan to move into midfield.
Casemiro – 4
Sent off. He uncharacteristically hesitated when the long ball went up for Zaha to run onto and that indecision led to the equaliser at 1-1. Tried to recover a poor Onana clearance but gave away a penalty which Icardi missed. Will now be suspended.
Hannibal Mejbri – 6
His energy can be infectious and his impact on this team grows by the game. Will have been annoyed at himself for blocking Mason Mount’s goal-bound effort just before the break, which proved to his final act as he was taken off.
Bruno Fernandes – 6
The curse of that right wing role continues. Facundo Pellistri found it a lonely life on that side at the weekend and similarly here for Fernandes for much of it.
Mason Mount – 7
Will leave wondering how he hasn’t bagged a brace. Felt like he covered the entire pitch with his endless running in a positive individual display for him.
Marcus Rashford – 7
So much has been written about his decision making and his burgeoning partnership with Rasmus Hojlund. He did brilliantly to plant a right-wing cross plum on the Dane’s head for the opener. Will have been frustrated to have undercooked a square pass across goal for Fernandes at 1-1.
Rasmus Hojlund – 8.5
Cheshire Cat grin on his face when he headed in to make it 1-0 and was the toast of Old Trafford with his chipped second. Was a constant menace for Galatasaray in his breakout night, just a shame the result tainted it for him. Booked.
Subs:
Christian Eriksen (for Hannibal Mejbri, 46) – 6.5
Was brought on to bring some control to the midfield and looked sharp going forwards with some brilliant switches of play. Age old problems of struggling defensively in the transition returned, though, and you fear that’s his Achilles heel.

Manager – Erik Ten Hag – 6
Six defeats now in 10 matches to start the season. This is becoming a real mess for Erik ten Hag to sort out. Got out coached in the second half.
GALATASARAY (4-2-3-1)
Fernando Muslera – 6.5
Tipped over while backtracking to deny Mason Mount in the second half and did well to put off a one versus one from Marcus Rashford moments earlier. Could do little about either goal.
Sacha Boey – 7
Looked to be in for a long night against Rashford but he gave Amrabat plenty to think about going the other way. No surprise Premier League clubs like Crystal Palace have got him high on their wishlist. Booked.
Davinson Sanchez – 5.5
The torrential rain was bound to catch someone’s studs out eventually and it just happened to be the former Tottenham man. He lost his footing just as Hojlund was on his heels and he raced clear to chip Muslera for the second United goal. Redeemed himself with a bullet header to tee up Icardi for the winner.
Abdulkerim Bardakci – 6
Was one of the few visiting players that faded into the background. Lost the battle with Hojlund, in conjunction with Sanchez, but did not look out of place.
Angelino – 7
The former Man City man relished his battle, especially with Fernandes so eager to come inside. Largely dominated that side of the pitch.
Kaan Ayhan – 6.5
It was a team effort to take control of central areas – even if United seem to concede that area of the pitch every game these days. Played a role in a massive win for this group stage campaign.
Lucas Torrerira – 7
United won’t have needed much of a scouting report on the former Arsenal man and yet he seemed to catch them off guard. Positive night before he went off.
Tete – 6.5
Did a lot of the dirty work that allowed Boey and others to really punish Amrabat. Will go unnoticed when the dust settles.
Kerem Akturkoglu – 7.5
A gem of a player. His low centre of gravity is a nightmare for defenders and he hassled and harried United into error after error in that second half. Scouts will have taken note.
Wilfried Zaha – 7
Was at pains to say how much he doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder after a failed spell at Man United a decade ago. He could have fooled us after cupping his ears in celebration in front of the United bench at his equalising goal.
Mauro Icardi – 6.5
You just knew when he stepped up to take a penalty at 2-2 it wasn’t going in. He was hard to miss with his blonde highlights and he looked to be heading for a disastrous night until a gift
but found himself walking more than running as Varane and Lindelof comfortably kept him quiet. Galatasaray will need much more from him if they are to progress out of Group A.

Disastrous pass back to Sanchez set Hojlund free for the second goal. He made an impact… but not what his manager envisioned.

What a night for the Galatasaray boss. He wanted to train in Turkey before flying in for fears United may have a watchful eye on his tactics if they trained in Manchester. Out coached Ten Hag in that second half and they were deserving winners.
