Mere hours now remain in the transfer window and it’s now or never for those clubs who still want to strengthen before Friday’s 11pm deadline.

A significant number of Premier League clubs are still in the market for new recruits either through panic at the way their seasons have started or simply a desire to grow even stronger.

Mail Sport takes a closer look at the big deals that could still happen before the window slams shut.

Matheus Nunes

Wolves to Manchester City, £53million

Likely to be the biggest deadline day fee after Wolves and Manchester City finally agreed on a £53m fee for Portugal midfielder Nunes.

Wolves originally wanted in excess of £60m for Nunes, who has been refusing to train to force the move, but compromised when City threatened to walk away.

The price tag went from £47.2m up to £53m but all parties now seem to be happy and Nunes has been granted permission to head to Manchester for his medical.

He will further boost the midfielder options available to Pep Guardiola which aren’t too shabby already.

Conor Gallagher

Chelsea to Tottenham Hotspur, c. £40m

Tottenham have reshaped their side nicely since Ange Postecoglou came in as manager and have the £100m received from Harry Kane’s sale to spend.

Chelsea and England midfielder Gallagher has duly moved onto their radar in the final two days of the window. No formal approach has been made as yet but Gallagher is aware of their interest.

Any deal will hinge on whether Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is loaned out to Atletico Madrid, creating a vacancy in their midfield.

Gallagher turned down a £38m offer from West Ham earlier in the window but his head may be turned by Spurs given that opportunities may be limited under Mauricio Pochettino.

Brennan Johnson

Nottingham Forest to Tottenham Hotspur or Brentford, >£50m

Will Brennan Johnson finally leave Nottingham Forest on deadline day?

The Wales star has been the subject of long-standing interest from Brentford – and several declined bids, the latest being £43m – and it appears the Bees’ are still keen with talks re-opening.

However, they could face competition from Tottenham with Postecoglou known to be a big fan of Johnson. Forest are looking for around £50m for him.

Sofyan Amrabat

Fiorentina to Manchester United, loan

Manchester United’s urgent need for a defensive midfielder is well known and Moroccan star Amrabat has been the subject of their interest for most of the summer.

Now we’re at the crunch, Fiorentina have rejected United’s £1.7m loan offer but they would be willing to consider loaning Amrabat if there was an obligation to buy attached.

United aren’t able to buy Amrabat outright because they haven’t – as yet – offloaded enough unwanted players to raise enough funds.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool to Al-Ittihad, £118m

This does have the potential to be the most spectacular move of all this summer – but let’s not forget the Saudi transfer window has another week to run and it wouldn’t be resolved quickly.

Al-Ittihad are certainly ready to test Liverpool’s firm insistence that Egyptian star Salah is going absolutely nowhere. The bid would be an eye-watering £118m.

Executives from the club and the Saudi Pro League are in situ in Europe ready for meetings with Liverpool as they look to make Salah the crown jewel of their expensive venture.

Ryan Gravenberch

Bayern Munich to Liverpool, £35m   

Liverpool currently look set to sign their fourth midfielder of the summer, in the form of Bayern Munich star Gravenberch. 

The Reds have agreed a £35m deal with the Bundesliga side for the 21-year-old, who is expected to have his medical in Merseyside on Friday.

Again it’s a case of a player being shifted on quickly – Gravenberch only joined Bayern from Ajax last year, starting just six times in the meantime.

Joao Palhinha

Fulham to Bayern Munich, £60-70m

Meanwhile, Bayern are trying to wrap up a deal for Fulham’s Palhinha before the Bundesliga deadline at 5pm on Friday.

West Ham saw a £45m offer for the Portugal midfielder rebuffed earlier in the summer and Fulham are understood to want £70m for him – though Bayern would be willing to offer £60m.

The player is reportedly keen to make the move happen so he can play Champions League football but some compromise on fee may be required.

Ansu Fati

Barcelona to Brighton or Sevilla, loan

Brighton were closing in on the sensational loan signing of Barcelona’s young star Ansu Fati on Wednesday night.

But Sevilla have thrown a spanner in the works by making their own proposal just as Roberto De Zerbi and Brighton’s team seemed to have convinced the 20-year-old.

Fati has grown frustrated at a lack of game time with the Spanish champions and as of Thursday night, it appeared that Brighton have enough to convince him to join the Premier League side rather than the Europa League winners. 

Sergio Reguillon

Tottenham to Manchester United, loan

United also need an emergency left-back signing after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both suffered injuries, leaving them short in that position.

Chelsea’s out-of-favour Spaniard Marc Cucurella would have been a good fit but talks appear to have slowed over the £7m loan fee.

Erik ten Hag’s side though now look like they are closing in on a move for Tottenham star Reguilon. 

The 26-year-old has been granted permission to have a medical at Old Trafford.  

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea to Nottingham Forest, Everton, Fulham or Al-Ettifaq

Another likely to form part of the Chelsea clear-out is Hudson-Odoi, who doesn’t appear to have a future at the club after returning from a loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Fulham have made a late attempt to bring Hudson-Odoi to Craven Cottage after Nottingham Forest appeared to be in pole position.

There is also interest from Everton and Steven Gerrard’s Saudi team Al-Ettifaq.  

Maxwel Cornet

West Ham to Everton

With Alex Iwobi nearing a £20m move to Fulham, Everton need a replacement and have turned to West Ham winger Cornet.

The Ivorian, 26, only joined the Hammers from Burnley a year ago but hasn’t been able to secure a regular starting spot in David Moyes’s side.

That would be different at Goodison Park where Sean Dyche desperately needs a bit of attacking spark following Everton’s dire start to the season.

Eric Dier

Tottenham to Burnley 

Tottenham insist they have not received or rejected any offers, but clubs such as Burnley have shown interest in taking him on loan. 

Dier has one year left on his contract and is prepared to sit that out but would be open to going on loan to gain game time. 

Spurs don’t want him to leave on a free and prefer to sell on a permanent deal.

Mason Greenwood

Manchester United to Turkish club 

United confirmed earlier this month that in a mutual agreement with the player, they would let Greenwood leave the club this summer.

The Red Devils have the option to cancel Greenwood’s contract before the 11pm deadline on Friday night and that would make him a free agent. 

But the striker has attracted increasing interest in recent days for United to be willing to wait for clubs from Turkey to return with offers.
