CWC 2023: IND vs ENG: India sends defending champions England back to home

India have officially knocked England from this World Cup. The Defending Champions England became the first team to get knocked out. India again played dominant cricket and won the match by 100 runs against England in a low-scoring encounter.

Batting first, Indian batters struggled at the start, losing the top order for just 40 runs. Gill was dismissed on 9, while Kohli was dismissed for a duck for the first time in the multinational tournaments. Iyer was yet again dismissed with a short delivery by Mark Wood.

Later India’s Captain Rohit Sharma along with KL Rahul steadied the innings and stitched a valuable partnership of 91 runs for the fifth wicket. Kl Rahul was dismissed on 39 breaking the valuable partnership.

Later Surya Kumar Yadav, India’s no.1 T20I batter was at the crease but at that time situation was to hold from one end and help and pile some runs. He did what he was required to do. Rohit was timing the ball like a perfectionist, but he was dismissed after playing a Captain’s knock of 87 from 101 balls.

Surya Kumar Yadav stayed till the end and ensured India put a respectable total on board. India finished their 50 overs scoring 229/9 and setting a target of 230 for England.

Chasing the total, England lost Dawid Malan and Joe Root in the same over of Jasprit Bumrah, as the first one was bowled, and the latter was dismissed on LBW on duck. This saw a twist in the innings as England lost their middle order as Mohammed Shami wreaked havoc with his fiery spell.

Jos Butler had no answer for the delivery on which he was bowled. Kuldeep Yadav with yet another masterclass spin dismissed Jos Butler and Liam Livingstone. Jos Butler’s dismissal resembled the same dismissal where Kuldeep dismissed Babar Azam four years back.

Only Livingstone managed to score more than 20 runs rest of the other batters didn’t trouble the scoreboard. England were bowled out for a mere 129 and India won the game by a massive margin of 100 runs.

They are now officially out of this World Cup. Shami was brilliant with the bowl as he finished his spell for 7-22-4. Jasprit Bumrah scalped three wickets.

India is dominant in every department, especially with the bowling attack they can win any game. Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Match for his heroic innings. India is now placed on the top of the table and remains the only unbeaten side in this WC. They will face Sri Lanka next at Wankhede Stadium.
