IPL franchises to submit list of retained players by 15 November

With the mini-auction to take place in the third week of December, The Indian Premier League (IPL) has asked the ten Franchises to submit their list of retained players by November 15.

There is no cap of retaining maximum four players from the squad for the mini-auction ahead of IPL 2023. In the mega auction held last year, where two new teams were added, old franchises had a limit to retain a maximum of four players.

In the upcoming mini-auction, the ten franchises will get an Rs 5 Crore extra (approx. US $607,000), which will add to the money left over from the previous auction to spend which makes the overall auction purse Rs 95 crore (approx. US $11.5 million), an ESPNcricinfo report said.

While Lucknow Super Giants had exhausted their entire purse, Punjab Kings had the largest purse left – Rs 3.45 crore (approx. US $425,000) – after last year’s auction. Chennai Super Kings had Rs 2.95 crore (approx. US $358,000) remaining, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore with Rs 1.55 crore (approx. US $188,000), Rajasthan Royals with Rs 0.95 crore (approx. US $115,000) and Kolkata Knight Riders with Rs. 0.45 Crore (approx. US $55,000).

Defending champions Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, were left with Rs 0.15 crore while three teams – Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals – had Rs 0.10 crore.

England Test captain and all-rounder Ben Stokes, Sam Curran and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green are some of the overseas players, who are expected to get the biggest bids if they make themselves available for the auction this year. Despite franchises having smaller purses, mini-auctions have produced some of the most expensive buys in the past seasons.

Teams like – CSK, DC and LSG – had bought only seven overseas players at the previous auction, so they could be on the search for players to fill up those spots while other teams could release one or more of their overseas players to create some space and increase their purses.

During IPL 2022, there were a total of six franchises who had brought in injury replacements.

Following is the list of players and their replacements:

Adam Milne, replaced by Matheesha Pathirana (CSK)
Tymal Mills, replaced by Tristan Stubbs (MI)
Nathan Coulter-Nile, replaced by Corbin Bosch (RR)
Mark Wood, replaced by Andrew Tye (LSG)
Alex Hales, replaced by Aaron Finch (KKR)
Jason Roy, replaced by Rahmanullah Gurbaz (GT).

All these six franchises will now have to decide their retained players and submit it before November 15.
