At The Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday, Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe by three runs in a T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match.
In an effort to make the most of a dry surface, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan elected to bat first against Zimbabwe in Brisbane. Zimbabwe, according to his opposite number Craig Ervine, would have also chosen to bat first.
Each of the two teams made one alteration, outlining their respective goals in the process. Instead of all-arounder Luke Jongwe, Zimbabwe chose Tendai Chatara, another pure fast bowler. Yasir Ali replaced all-arounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Held Nerve To Win Close Contest
Bangladesh was able to reach 150 for seven in 20 overs thanks to a knock of 71 runs off 55 balls by Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Zimbabwe had a great start with the ball, but their middle broke apart somewhat, in part because of their fielding. After the midway point, runs arrived in massive numbers, and things didn’t start to feel normal until they broke the Shakib-Shanto stand. In their last 10 overs, Bangladesh made 87 runs.
Zimbabwe was held to 147 for 8 in 19.5 overs as Bangladesh batted in defense of a goal of 151 runs. Sean Williams scored 64 runs off of 42 balls, but his team was unable to advance across the finish line.
In the meantime, Mosaddek Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, and Taskin Ahmed each claimed three wickets. For Zimbabwe, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani both collected two-wicket hauls.
