The 32-year-old Heinrich Klaasen was seen keeping the wickets for South Africa National Cricket Team in the 23rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.
Klaasen took over the wicket-keeping duties after Quinton de Kock was unable to do the job. The first-choice keeper of South Africa De Kock experienced mild cramps after playing a stupendous knock in the Mumbai heat and the decision was made to rest him in the second innings.
Heinrich Klaasen, the backup wicket-keeper, took over the job and he didn’t disappoint. Klaasen made his presence felt during the innings by taking three back-to-back stunning catches behind the stumps.
Klaasen picked his first catch on the first ball of the 7th over to send back Tanzid Hasan. He then took an incredible catch on the next delivery as Najmul Hossain Shanto edged it behind the stumps and the wicket-keeper dived to complete the catch.
Heinrich Klaasen picked his third catch of the innings to remove Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan on the second ball of the 8th over. The Bangladesh captain went for the drive and got a thick outside edge which led to the ball flying behind the stumps where Klaasen dived brilliantly to grab a stunner.

Earlier, South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. They were able to post a mammoth total of 382/5 on the board, riding on the sensational knocks from Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, and Aiden Markram.
This was South Africa’s third 350-plus score in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 and this was the first instance of three 350-plus scores being scored by a team in a single World Cup edition. Overall, the Proteas have posted 8 350-plus totals in World Cups.
Chasing the target, the Bangla Tigers were reduced to 31/3 after Klaasen bagged three catches and at the time of writing, they were struggling to get going.
