SA vs BAN: Taskin Ahmed’s Shoulder Injury Strikes Again, Participation Doubtful For South Africa Clash – Reports

Bangladesh’s ICC World Cup 2023 campaign faces uncertainty as their star fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed, remains in doubt for their crucial encounter against South Africa, as per Cricbuzz. Taskin’s shoulder injury, which sidelined him for the India game, has yet to fully heal, casting a shadow over his availability for the forthcoming match.

The Bangladesh camp expressed their concerns when Taskin Ahmed was unable to participate in the training session at the Wankhede Stadium on October 22.

An official from the team management told Cricbuzz, “Let us see what happens today (in the practice session), but he looks doubtful for the next game against South Africa as he is yet to recover fully.”

However, there is optimism that Taskin Ahmed may be ready to take the field when Bangladesh face the Netherlands on October 28. Despite his ongoing recovery, Taskin’s absence from the team is a significant blow, considering his stature as one of their premier fast bowlers.

The origins of Taskin’s shoulder issue date back to the team’s tour of South Africa in 2022, where he struggled to complete the opening Test match. While an operation was recommended at the time, the team management chose a conservative approach in light of the impending 2022 T20 World Cup.

Taskin Ahmed Felt Some Discomfort While Playing Against England

Taskin’s discomfort during the match against England became evident when he approached head coach Chandika Hathurusingha for guidance during a pre-game batting session. Hathurusingha provided exercises to alleviate Taskin’s discomfort, enabling him to take the field against New Zealand. Unfortunately, Taskin’s performance in that match failed to make a significant impact.

In the lead-up to the South Africa encounter, Taskin Ahmed refrained from bowling during the training session, focusing instead on rehabilitation with physio Bayzidul Islam.

In addition to Taskin’s uncertain status, Bangladesh are closely monitoring ODI skipper Shakib al Hasan. Shakib missed the game against India due to a quad tear and is expected to bowl for the first time since the injury. His performance during practice will determine whether he is fit to participate in the upcoming matches.

With several key players nursing injuries, Bangladesh face an uphill battle as they strive to make their mark in the ICC World Cup, navigating the challenges of a demanding tournament. South Africa on the other hand are in terrific form and are ready for some more action after thrashing the defending champions England in their recent game. They will look forward to seeking revenge against Bangladesh as the latter won the battle in the 2019 World Cup.
