Shreyas Iyer has emerged as a prime candidate for the best fielder medal after his magnificent effort on the field in the ongoing match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand. The 21st match of the tournament is underway at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
India won the toss and opted to field first against New Zealand. Mohammed Siraj drew the first blood for his team as he sent Devon Conway packing early. However, the credit for that goes to none other than Shreyas Iyer, who took a staggering catch to dismiss the batter.
Mohammed Siraj bowled a fuller delivery onto the pads, to which Devon Conway tried to play the glance. He timed the ball perfectly but Shreyas Iyer took an incredible low catch to his right from square leg. As he took the catch, gestured towards the fielding coach and asked for the medal.

The Rahul Dravid-led side has started the tradition of giving the gold medal to the best fielders at the end of the match. So far, Virat Kohli, Shardul Thakur, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja have earned it. Shreyas Iyer with this effort would be a serious candidate.
Devon Conway managed a 9-ball duck and it would be a icing on the cake for India with the way they have bowled. The New Zealand batter has been in tremendous form in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. He’s amongst the leading run-getters in the tournament.

India were off to a rollicking start with the ball as after the effort of Mohammed Siraj and Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami chipped in as well. The fast bowler on the first ball of his spell in the game removed Will Young to put India in the driving seat.
Mohammed Shami bowled a length ball that had a bit of extra bounce onto off. Will Young tried to cut but dragged it back onto his stumps. This is his first game in the World Cup and he would be hoping to make a big impact in the game.
