The 32-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell smashed a spectacular century in the 21st match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, October 22.
Daryl Mitchell played a wonderful knock against the Men In Blue and laid the foundation for the comeback of the BlackCaps in the high-octane encounter.
Both teams entered the game by winning four consecutive matches in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The BlackCaps defeated England, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan comprehensively to start the tournament on high.
On the other hand, the Men In Blue registered incredible victories over Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in their first four matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
India won the toss and invited the BlackCaps to bat first in the match. The Indian bowlers delivered a terrific performance with the ball as they removed in-form openers Devon Conway and Will Young inside 10 overs.
However, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra batted exceptionally well and helped New Zealand make a comeback in the match. They added 159 runs together in 152 balls to push India on the back foot.
Mitchell played a confident cricket against the strong Indian bowling unit and he punished the bad deliveries. He took 60 balls to complete his fifty and then 100 balls to register his ton.
Dary Mitchell became only the second New Zealand batsman to score a century against India in the World Cup after Glenn Turner, who hit a World Cup hundred against India in 1975 in Manchester. This was also his 4th ton in ODIs in 2023.
