IND Vs NZ: Cheteshwar Pujara Feels Bowlers Will Play A Pivotal Part In India-New Zealand Clash

Cheteshwar Pujara, a pivotal figure in the Indian cricket team, shared his insights and thoughts on the upcoming clash between India and New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Pujara’s observations shed light on the intricacies of the game and the strategic approach both teams will need to adopt in this high-stakes encounter.

Speaking about New Zealand, Cheteshwar Pujara acknowledged their structured approach to the game, emphasizing their meticulous game plans and their ability to execute them effectively. He noted that countering this well-organized opponent would require moving them out of their comfort zone. Pujara expressed his hope that the upcoming match would be the day when India accomplishes this.

“They have quite a structure, they know their game plans really well, and they are able to execute them really well also. How do you count on that, that’s more important because think, you have to move them out of their comfort zone at some point and I hope that tomorrow is the day” he said

Cheteshwar Pujara also highlighted the critical role that bowling would play in determining the outcome of the match. He pointed out that both teams possess strong batting lineups, and the key to gaining the upper hand would lie in the ability to bowl well, apply pressure, and consistently take wickets during the middle phase of the game, typically between the 10th and 40th overs.

“I think it depends on how well someone bowls. I think both teams have a very good batting lineup, so if you bowl well, if you can bowl the opposition out cheaply or if you can put pressure and keep taking those wickets in the middle phase of the game, that’s where I think the game will change. So I think the important phase is between 10 to 40 overs” Pujara added

Cheteshwar Pujara Stressed On The Importance Of Bowling

In the context of the bowling department, Cheteshwar Pujara stressed the importance of collective effort. While acknowledging the skills of spin bowler Kuldeep Yadav, he emphasized that success would depend on the entire bowling unit. Seamers, spinners, and all-rounders, including the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, would need to contribute by taking wickets and building pressure from both ends of the pitch. This balanced approach, he noted, would be the key to consistently picking up wickets.

He stated, “You can’t just rely on him (Kuldeep Yadav), I mean he’s a really good bowler but even the seamers will have to do the job, Jadeja will have to take wickets, it’s never just about an individual, it’s collectively as a bowling unit you need to bowl well and that’s when you start picking wickets because it’s not just about from one end, you need to build the pressure from both the ends, that’s when you start picking wickets.”

When asked about his assessment of the teams’ chances, Cheteshwar Pujara slightly favoured India, rating their odds at 55-45 in their favour. He attributed this advantage to India’s familiarity with the conditions and their current form. Pujara recognized that New Zealand always posed a formidable challenge and praised their recent performances. However, he noted that the Indian team’s strong form and deep understanding of the conditions would give them an edge in the upcoming clash.

“I think India just has a slight advantage, I would go with 55-45 so it’s not a massive difference because the way New Zealand has been playing it’s always a tough opposition to beat but the kind of form the Indian team is in, they have the best chance because they know the conditions really well and that is an advantage,” he concluded

As the highly anticipated India vs. New Zealand match approaches, Cheteshwar Pujara’s insights serve as a reminder of the intricacies involved in the game of cricket. His assessment of the importance of executing game plans, the role of bowlers, and the collective effort required to secure victory offers valuable perspective for cricket enthusiasts eagerly awaiting this World Cup showdown. The encounter promises to be a thrilling battle between two formidable teams, and fans are sure to be treated to an enthralling spectacle as these cricketing giants go head to head.
