Pakistan All-rounder Imad Wasim took a dig at skipper Babar Azam following the team’s loss against Australia in the World Cup 2023. Imad Wasim pointed out that Babar Azam hasn’t delivered a significant knock in a crucial match for Pakistan in the last four years.

The Pakistan team suffered a 62-run defeat against Australia at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, October 20th. Babar Azam managed to score only 18 runs from 14 deliveries before being dismissed by the Australian leg-spinner, Adam Zampa.

During an interview on a local TV channel, Imad Wasim highlighted the intense pressure of international cricket, but the players should demonstrate their worth.

“At the world stage there is pressure, but it is also the place where you prove your worth. I think the last time Babar performed in a big match was against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, when he scored a century. But after that he is yet to win a big match for Pakistan. This is not criticism, but a fact,” Wasim said, as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

Babar Azam has not been performing up to expectations in the ongoing marquee tournament in India. The Pakistan skipper has scored only 83 runs in four innings, with a disappointing average of 20.75 and a strike rate of 79.05.

It Is Babar Azam’s Responsibility To Win Matches – Imad Wasim

Imad Wasim emphasized the need for Babar Azam to adapt his batting to the team’s requirements, highlighting his potential to dominate bowlers in the ongoing World Cup.

“Being the number one batter in ODIs, it is Babar’s responsibility to win matches but questions will be raised if he doesn’t do that. He needs bat in accordance with the team’s requirement. He has the ability to dominate bowlers and this World Cup is the place to do that,” he added.

The Babar Azam-led team is currently in fifth place in the 10-team table with 4 points. They have suffered two losses after a good start in the tournament. They will take on Afghanistan in their next game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 23, Monday.
