Paras Mhambrey, Team India’s bowling coach, has explained the reason behind Suryakumar Yadav not getting a chance in the playing XI during the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

He is one of the only two players who are yet to get a game for Team Indian in the ongoing competition. The other player is veteran fast-bowler Mohammed Shami. After struggling in ODIs for a good period of time, Suryakumar Yadav regained his form just at the right time.

During the three-match ODI series against Australia last month, he showed what he is capable of in the 50-over format. One of the best T20 batsmen in the world, the right-handed batsman smashed an unbeaten 72 off just 37 balls in Indore. Before that, he had scored a fine fifty in the Mohali ODI too, and was also a part of the team for the Rajkot ODI.

Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from the playing eleven for the World Cup has surprised many and Mhambrey has explained the reason behind it. Hailing the star batsman as a match-winner, the India coach stated that resting a player like him was difficult but the team management has no other option. He made it clear that Suryakumar Yadav does not have any slot right now in the playing eleven.

“He is a match-winner. Difficult to bowl. He can hit any area. The difficult decision to rest him: like Shami, like Ashwin. But the question is who do you replace? Whose place does he take? He doesn’t have a slot right now,” said Mhambrey.

Meanwhile, Team India will be in action on Thursday (October 19) when they lock horns against Bangladesh in the 17th match of the World Cup. India have started their campaign with three straight wins and will be looking to make the most of their form against Bangladesh who have 1 win and 2 losses from their opening three games.
