New Zealand might see the return of Kane Williamson for the game against Bangladesh. Tom Latham led the side in the first two games and won both of them as captain. The Kiwis are at the top of the points table heading into this game.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be led by Shakib Al Hasan who is playing his fifth World Cup. The Tigers lost the match against England after beating Afghanistan in their previous game. The campaign gets tougher for them from here on with tougher teams to face.

New Zealand

New Zealand will be getting a massive boost from Kane Williamson’s return for the Bangladesh game. Head coach Gary Stead seems positive about Williamson’s return. It will be interesting to see who sits out in place of Williamson.

The team has played almost flawless cricket in their first two games having a good knowledge of the conditions. Devon Conway opening the batting has been able to soak in the pressure and play freely. That he plays spin well is another big plus for his game. He will be back playing in Chennai.

While Williamson is expected to return, there is no official word on Tim Southee’s return who recently had a thumb surgery. Mitchell Satner along with Conway understands these conditions well playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. It will be interesting to see if the Kiwis add a third spin option in Is Sodhi who did not play the first two games.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh lost by 137 runs against England after winning their first game against Afghanistan. They were below-par with both bat and ball. The Tigers opted to bowl after winning the toss in Dharamsala against England and paid the price. Thus decision-making at the toss is a major concern for the side. They failed to read the conditions properly in the second game. Playing in Chennai, it will be interesting to see what they opt for if they win the toss.

Both batting and bowling as a whole have let the side down in the game against England. Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha admitted that their top order is a concern in this tournament. The side lacks power-hitters throughout the batting lineup which is another area they fall short in.

Shakib as the skipper has failed to contribute with the bat in both games. This is another key issue that has kept the management thinking. The Tigers need to play as a whole if they are to overpower the Kiwis. Bangladesh are still searching for their first World Cup win against New Zealand.
