ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After BAN vs AFG Match 3 And SA vs SL Match 4

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings, Most Runs, Most Wickets After Match 3 And Match 4: On Saturday, October 7, ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 witnessed a double-header. In the first match, Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team faced off Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan National Cricket Team at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. The decision didn’t favour the side initially as Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided the Afghans with a brilliant start.

Skipper Shakib Al Hasan picked the opening wicket of the match and that opened the floodgates as Afghanistan went from 47/1 to 156/10. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan shined with the ball as they bagged three wickets each. Also, Shoriful Islam picked two wickets while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman got one wicket each.

Chasing the small target, Bangladesh were reduced to 27/2. However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Najmul Hossain Shanto stitched together a brilliant partnership of 97 runs to help their side get closer to the target.

In the end, Shanto alongside Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to a convincing victory over Afghanistan as they completed the run-chase in 34.4 overs and won by 6 wickets with 92 balls remaining.

ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: South Africa Lock Horns With Sri Lanka In Match 4 Of World Cup

In the second match of the day and the fourth match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team faced off Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. The decision proved to be an awful one for the side as the Proteas batters annihilated the Lankan bowling unit.

South Africa posted a huge score of 428/5 on the board, thanks to the sensational innings of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram. Several records were broken during South Africa’s historic innings against Sri Lanka.

Markram completed his century off 49 balls, with 14 fours and 3 sixes, and this was the fastest hundred in a World Cup match. As Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, and Quinton de Kock completed their tons, South Africa created history as this was the first time that three players scored hundreds in the same innings in a World Cup match. Also, South Africa’s score of 428/5 is the highest-ever total achieved by a team in the history of the World Cup.

Chasing the target in the match, Sri Lanka lost openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera for low scores. However, Kusal Mendis kept Sri Lanka in the game with his outstanding 76 runs knock, which came off just 42 balls.

Sadeera Samarawickrama got off to a good start but he wasn’t able to convert it into a big score and got out for 23. However, Charith Asalanka made the most of his start and scored 79 runs.

After losing all the top batters, Lankan Lions were down and out in the 32nd over and they were in no position to win the match. In the end, Dasun Shanaka smashed a good 68 runs and Kasun Rajitha chipped in with 33 runs, but Sri Lanka were bundled out for 326 in 44.5 overs to face a 102-run defeat in the match.

For South Africa, Gerald Coetzee picked three wickets while Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Marco Jansen got two wickets each.
