Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle to comment on the washout in the India vs England ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 warm-up fixture.
The warm-up match between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team was set to be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Saturday, September 30.
Things were going well and India won the toss and opted to bat first. India captain Rohit Sharma said they decided to bat first because of the heat in Guwahati and wanted his bowlers to stay fresh and bowl under the lights.
However, a few minutes after the toss it started to rain and the ground staff rushed in with the covers. No play was possible on the day due to rain and the teams returned to their hotels and the umpires decided to call off the game.

The cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took to X to react to the washout, saying that the recently concluded three-match ODI series between India and Australia was more valuable than the participants considered it to be.
Aakash Chopra highlighted that India’s second warm-up match against the Netherlands is at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram and the weather forecast in the city is not great either.
“India’s first warmup game washed-out in Guwahati. Second game against Netherlands is in Thiruvananthapuram…which, by the way, is getting a fair amount of rain too. Well…suddenly, it seems that the #IndvAus series was more valuable than both teams considered it to be. #WorldCup2023,” Aakash Chopra posted on his official X handle.

Earlier, Aakash Chopra had stated that India and Australia weren’t interested in participating in the three-match ODI series. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra had said:
“We are on the verge of the World Cup, but why is this game being played? Are you getting that feeling? From the behavior of both teams, one gets the feeling that they are asking – why are you making us play? What’s the reason? Can you please elaborate a little more? It’s like the papers that are set by the school before the board exams. You don’t feel interested. This bilateral series is like that. It’s happening, but one seems to be taking it seriously.”
The Men In Blue beat Australia by 5 wickets in the first ODI in Mohali and by 99 runs in the second ODI in Indore to seal the series. However, they were unable to register a historic clean sweep over the Aussies as they faced a 66-run defeat in the third ODI in Rajkot
