Indian Women’s star batter Smriti Mandhana expressed her emotions after winning the Gold medal in the Asian Games 2023.
Indian Women’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana recalled Neeraj Chopra’s triumph in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after India won the gold medal in the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
Indian Women’s Team beat Sri Lanka by 19 runs in a low-scoring thriller in the gold medal match of Asian Games 2023 at the Hangzhou Cricket Ground, Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field on Monday.
India lost star opener Shafali Varma (9) early. However, after that, Smriti Mandhana (46) and Rodrigues (42) added a crucial 73 runs for the second wicket. It was a torrid time for Indian women after that as they lost wickets in clusters and could manage just 116 runs. For Sri Lanka Women, Udeshika Prabodhani was the pick of the bowlers as she picked 2 wickets and gave away just 16 runs.
Chasing a small total, Sri Lanka were restricted to a score of 97/8 in 20 overs. The pick of the bowler for India was Titas Sadhu who took 3 wickets in 4 overs and conceded only 6 runs.

Following India’s Victory, Smriti Mandhana while speaking to ANI said:
“This is very special. We have seen this on TV. When Neeraj Chopra won the Gold, I had a match… The manner in which National Anthem was played and India’s National Flag went up, I think it was pretty special and I had tears in my eyes… Really happy that we could contribute to the medal tally of the Indian contingent… Gold is Gold… Really happy that we gave our best today”.
Smriti Mandhana was handed the duty to lead the Indian team in the Quarter-final and semi-final of the Asian Games 2023 as the regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur was unavailable for the selection as she was serving a two-match suspension from the ICC for her actions in the recent Bangladesh series.
Earlier last year, the Indian Women’s team won the silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
