KL Rahul Recalls India’s 2011 World Cup Triumph, Says They Want To Recreate It For Fans

Indian batter KL Rahul recalled how he celebrated the 2011 World Cup triumph. He revealed that he enjoyed with his friends and family at one of Bengaluru’s busiest places. The keeper-batter also was hopeful about India recreating that in 2023.

The ICC World Cup 2023 will happen in India from 5th October. A lot of hopes would be relying on the Indian Cricket Team as they will be the home team and with them not winning the ICC title since 2013, a bit of added pressure would be on them, especially in front of the home crowd.

When India won the World Cup in 2011, the entire country came out on the roads and celebrated the triumph. This time around same expectations will be there. Apart from fans, Indian players themselves are leaving no stone unturned in the preparations, and more than everyone they are excited about the tournament.

Going into the tournament, KL Rahul will be one of the most crucial aspects for India. He holds the key to India’s middle order as over the last few years he has been the team’s most consistent batter. The keeper-batter has been in the red hot form as well and a lot would be relying on him.

KL Rahul in an interview with JioCinema talked about the 2011 World Cup and revealed how he keenly observed the game despite being in the busiest place. He also opened up about the scenes following the team’s win. He added:

“I was in Bangalore and watching the games with a few friends. I remember when we lost two quick wickets, all of us thought the game was gone. We all went back home, fearing that the traffic might get worse after the end of the game. And then, as soon we reached home, the partnership was happening.

“Gautam bhai and Virat were in a decent partnership and then Gauti (Gambhir) bhai and Mahi (MS Dhoni) bhai partnership. Once we won the game, we ended up driving to the busiest area in Bangalore and it was something! It was a scene, everyone was jumping and celebrating. There was so much joy.”

Give it everything that we have – KL Rahul On ICC World Cup 2023

KL Rahul further said that they will give more than their best in the ICC World Cup 2023 and they are hoping to recreate what they did in 2011. He explained:

“It was a proud moment for all of us as Indians and hopefully, we can recreate it for the people in our country. Give it everything that we have, more than our best for the next couple of months. It’s my first World Cup at home. For a lot of us, it’s our first World Cup at home.

“Hope it’s going to be exciting. Expectations are going through the roof, but it’s always like that with the Indian team. Fingers crossed that we go out there and put on a good performance for the crowds that come in and the people of our country and give something that will make people proud.”

KL Rahul is currently captaining India in the ODI series against Australia. He started the series on high as he scored a magnificent half-century in the first game and won his team the game. He has also been named in the Indian squad for the ICC World Cup 2023 and the record that he has in the middle order, it’s fair to say that he will be crucial for the team.
