MS Dhoni Didn’t Sacrifice His Batting Position: S Sreesanth Disagrees With Gautam Gambhir’s Views

Former India fast-bowler S Sreesanth has shared his views on his ex-teammate Gautam Gambhir‘s recent remarks about MS Dhoni’s batting position.

Time and again, Gautam Gambhir has faced criticism from several quarters for criticising the media for giving MS Dhoni the credit for the World Cup triumph in 2011. While many say that Gautam Gambhir does not have a good relationship with the former India skipper, the former batsman has always insisted that he has no problem with MS Dhoni but the media.

And recently Gautam Gambhir’s critics were left surprised when he heaped praise on MS Dhoni. During the coverage of the Asia Cup on Star Sports, the former India opener lavished praise on the former India wicketkeeper-batsman for his contribution to Indian cricket. He stated that Dhoni could have achieved even more as a batsman but could not do so because of his captaincy.

Gautam Gambhir claimed that Dhoni would have shattered several batting records if he batted at number three and not in the lower middle-order. The former cricketer even stated that Dhoni sacrificed his batting success for trophies for the team.

S Sreesanth disagrees with Gautam Gambhir:

While many believe that Gautam Gambhir was right about MS Dhoni, S Sreesanth is not one of them. In a recent interview with Sportskeeda, the former India pacer did not really sacrifice his batting position but changed it to suit the team’s requirements.

At the same time, S Sreesanth agreed with Gautam Gambhir on Dhoni’s views on the team, saying that the former captain always thought about the team first.

“Gautam Bhai said recently that Dhoni would have scored more runs had he batted at No.3. But for Dhoni it was always about more victories than more runs. He always had the ability to finish games when the team needed him and he won two World Cups as well,” S Sreesanth said.

“Credit should go to Dhoni, but he didn’t sacrifice his batting position. He worked a way to find out which players would do well for the team in which position and then slot them in those positions accordingly. His captaincy had the ability to bring the best out of his players. He has always thought about the team first,” S Sreesanth added.

MS Dhoni retired from international cricket as India’s most decorated captain. He led India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy apart from helping the team win numerous series during his illustrious career.
