Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has included Pakistan among his contenders to win the World Cup title. Pakistan recently were eliminated from the Asia Cup after their loss against Sri Lanka in a potential semi-final clash in the Super 4.
India were the ultimate winners of the Asia Cup after bowling out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs and chasing the target down inside 6.1 overs. Mohammed Siraj made the headlines with his spell of 6/21 and broke a plethora of records.
Taking to X, Kevin Pietersen shared his opinion on the teams whom he thought could go the distance. He started with South Africa saying that they are one of the contenders after their recent ODI series win against Australia at home. South Africa came back to win the series 3-2 after losing the first two games.
He then said that India at home are favourites to win the title after their Asia Cup title win. Skipper Rohit Sharma said that India ticked all the right boxes in the tournament and sounded confident about his team’s chances in the mega event.

He next spoke about Pakistan considering them a threat in the upcoming World Cup edition. Pakistan won their only World Cup way back in 1992. They played the final in the 1999 edition. Under Babar Azam, the team reached the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 but lost to England.
He said that England are also favorites to win the World Cup along with India. The ECB announced the England 15-member ODI squad on Sunday, September 18. The squad looks compact and there are hardly any loopholes with all the bases covered.
He finally spoke about Australia that they are always contenders to win whenever a World Cup is played. The Aussies are the most successful team in the World Cup with five titles. They last won in 2015. Interestingly since 2011, the home team has won the World Cup in the last three editions.
