SA vs AUS: South Africa Playing XI For First ODI Against Australia Announced

Temba Bavuma-led South Africa will lock horns against Mitchell Marsh’s Australia on Thursday (September 7th) at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. The five-game series will be Quinton de Kock’s final ODI series at home.

The Proteas are coming into the five-match ODI series after displaying a disappointing performance in the three-game T20I series. The Proteas lost all three games against Australia in the 20-over format matches even after having a talented squad.

In the first T20I match, South Africa lost the game by 111 runs. In the second 20-over game, the Proteas were defeated by eight wickets. In the final match, South Africa tried to end the series on a high note even after losing the series but lost the match by five wickets.

In the third T20I match, Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. Rezza Hendricks opened the inning and scored 42 runs from 30 balls with a strike rate of 140.00. The Proteas T20I skipper, Aiden Markram made 41 runs from 23 balls with a strike rate of 178.26.

Donovan Ferreira played a 48-run knock in the match and scored the highest run among other batsmen and led South Africa to a total of 190 runs.

In the second innings, the South African bowling attack failed to defend the target. Bjorn Fortuin took two wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 36 runs. Gerald Coetzee too took two wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 36 runs.

Before the start of the first ODI match, South Africa announced the playing eleven of the match which will face Australia.

Temba Bavuma (C), Quinton de Kock (Wk), Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada.

South Africa will be looking forward to starting the 50-over format series on a good note and clinching a win in the first ODI match.

South Africa will start their ODI World Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka on October 7th at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Proteas will take on India in the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 5th and the match will be played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
