The AUS vs SA third and final T20I will be played in Durban. Australia have won the first two T20Is and hence the series. The match starts from 5.30 pm IST which is 2 pm local time. South Africa will look for a consolation win in the third T20I after losing the AUS vs SA T20I series.
South Africa at home have been completely dominated by the Aussies. They have played a B-side and suffered heavy defeats in the process. Australia won the first T20I by 111 runs defending a massive score. They won the second T20I by 8 wickets chasing 165.
New Australian T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh has dominated with the bat scoring two back to back unbeten knocks. He has looked to play with an aggressive intent batting at number three in the batting-order. Both these teams will meet in the ICC World Cup in just over a month’s time and hence the series is a dress rehearsal for the sides. The senior players from both sides are rested for this T20I series.
The Proteas, on the other hand, have looked out of sorts without their senior players who are being rested. Their bowling attack especially without the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje has looked weak. The second-string seam bowling attack has not managed to pick wickets regularly. Tabraiz Shamsi as the first choice spinner has been expensive as well. Despite the series loss, South Africa are placed fifth while Australia sixth in the ICC rankings.
The two teams have played 24 T20I matches till date with Australia winning 16 matches while South Africa winning just eight. The Aussies are well poised to cleansweep the Proteas without their senior players.
Last-minute injuries to Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith have ruled them out of the series as well. Smith is recovering from a tendon injury to his left wrist, while Starc is ruled out with groin soreness. Marnus Labuschagne replaces Smith in Australia’s ODI squad while Ashton Turner replaces him in the T20I squad. Spencer Johnson, who is already part of the T20I squad, replaces Starc in the Aussie ODI squad as well for the series.
