IND vs PAK: Irfan Pathan Questions Babar Azam’s Captaincy Against India, Says ‘India Would Have Kept Fast Bowling On As They Had A…’

Former India pacer, Irfan Pathan questioned Babar Azam’s captaincy in the high-voltage match of the Asia Cup 2023 between India and Pakistan on Saturday (September 2nd) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

In India’s first match of the Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. Pakistani bowling attack started with great impact after Shaheen Afridi picked up a few wickets in the initial stage of the match to dismiss Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Afridi took four wickets in his 10-over spell and gave away 35 runs.

Apart from Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah also took three wickets respectively to dismiss India by the 49th over.

However, after Babar Azam started to use the spinners to get wickets, Indian batsmen started to get hold of the match and gave a target of 267 runs.

Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya made a strong partnership to take India to a better place in the most anticipated match.

But before the start of the second inning, rain started to pour down and the match was abandoned without any result.

However, Pakistan are currently the number one team in the ODI format and became the first team to qualify in the Super Four of the Asia Cup 2023.

Irfan Pathan took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to comment on Babar Azam’s captaincy and said that the Pakistani spinner conceded more runs than the pacer, and if India were in their place then the Men in Blues would have continued using pacers to get wickets.

Pathan added that Rohit Sharma’s side would be more disappointed after the rain since the pitch had variable bounce.

So I thought Team India would have been more disappointed with the rain: Irfan Khan on Babar Azam

“21 overs 133 runs from spinners without a wicket was game changer. If India were bowling and Pakistan were 66/4 India would have kept fast bowling on as they had a liberty of 4 fast bowlers unlike Pakistan who were playing with 3.

“So, I thought Team India would have been more disappointed with the rain after scoring above par score on that pitch which had variable bounce,” Irfan Pathan wrote on X.

In the upcoming match of the Asia Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma’s India will lock horns against Nepal on Monday (September 4th) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
