Asia Cup 2023: Ravichandran Ashwin Takes A Massive Dig At Critics Trolling Him For Bowling On Spin Friendly Pitches

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin recently shared his thoughts on the rank turners used in Test matches in India in recent years. Ravichandran Ashwin emphasized that he wasn’t involved in pitch preparation, highlighting that the conditions are the same for all bowlers.

Spin bowlers have played a major role in red-ball cricket on Indian soil, as most matches have finished within three days. Fast bowlers didn’t get much help from the surface during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series between the hosts and the Australian team earlier this year.

Same For Jaddu, Nathan Lyon, Or Me – Ravichandran Ashwin

In an interview with Times of India, Ravichandran Ashwin clarified that decisions regarding pitch preparation are made by the team management for the team’s benefit.

“I do not make the pitch, I do not roll the pitch and I just play on the pitch that is given to me. The decision to play on a pitch is taken by the team management in the best interest of the team. The pitch is the same for Jaddu, Nathan Lyon or me,” Ashwin said.

The Test matches rarely witnessed high-scoring encounters due to ball turns from Day 1 and the rapid deterioration. The conditions have drawn criticism from the ICC, often leading to unfavorable ratings in match referee reports.

We Have Been Extremely Consistent – Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin believes that England is currently the only team capable of defeating India on Indian soil, noting their aggressive approach against all oppositions.

“England are playing a very exciting brand of cricket that has excited a lot of people around the world. On the other hand, we have been extremely consistent and successful in recent years,” he added.

“I cannot wait for them to come here and I don’t think they are going to take one foot backward, they will continue to play the way they play. It wouldn’t be an overstatement if I say that England is possibly the team to beat at this point of time,” he concluded.

India is set to face England in a five-match Test series as part of their upcoming home series, commencing on January 25. The matches are scheduled to take place in Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala.
