Stuart Broad, the 37-year-old English pacer, announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on July 29, 2023, during the fifth Test match of the Ashes 2023 between England and Australia and announced that the final game of the Ashes series will be his last match.

Stuart Broad had a stupendous cricket career spanning over 15 years at the highest level of the sport and his retirement came as a shock to many cricket pundits.

In Test cricket, Broad played 167 games and scalped 604 wickets with an economy of 2.98. In the 50-over format, Stuart Broad appeared in 121 matches and took 178 wickets with an economy of 5.27. In the shortest format of cricket, the 37-year-old took 65 wickets in 56 matches.

While speaking to Betfair, Ian Bell, the former England batsman recently named three bowlers who all can replace Stuart Broad in the England Cricket Team.

Ian Bell first picked Ollie Robinson as the perfect replacement for Stuart Broad. “I think as far as replacing Broad goes, England have options and they are down the road to finding some good operators. Ollie Robinson, of course, comes back into the team,” Bell said.

In the second place, Bell named Josh Tongue as he had already his debut for the national team in the summer and managed to handle the pressure. “Josh Tongue made his debut this summer and it looked as though he could handle the pressure of a big series,” Bell added.

Thirdly, Ian Bell picked Sam Cook who plays for Essex. Bell further said that Cook can do the job since he has a high skill level and can keep consistency like no other player.

“Sam Cook, from Essex, could do a job. I was with him with the Lions in Sri Lanka. He has a high skill level, hits the top of off with consistency like nobody else and his control of length is fantastic. What is key is recognizing that guys like Tongue or Cook need time to bed in. You can’t expect either of them to be as good as Stuart straightaway,” Bell added.

England showcased a stunning performance in the Ashes 2023 after losing the first two games. Ben Stokes-led England won the third and fifth Test to draw the series by 2-2. However, still Australia retained the series since they won Ashes 2023.
