Riyan Parag has managed to turn things around in spectacular fashion after being heavily criticized for his performance in recent months. The youngster is yet to play for the senior Indian team but has already been garnering a lot of attention thanks to his flamboyant and confident nature.

He was constantly trolled and criticized since he failed to do well in this year’s Indian Premier League. In 7 games for Rajasthan Royals, he managed to score only 78 runs at an average of 13 and a top score of 20. It was followed by a poor outing for India A in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023.

And as the criticism increased with each passing day, Riyan Parag proved his immense potential by coming up with a stunning performance in the recently concluded Deodhar Trophy, the inter-zonal 50-over tournament. The youngster from Assam was the highest run-scorer, highest six-hitter, joint third-highest wicket-taker, and Player of the Tournament.

He smashed two centuries and missed out on the third by just 5 runs in the final where he scored 95 off just 65 balls. Both of his centuries displayed his ability to play at a good pace. Against North Zone, he scored 131 off 102 balls before smashing 102 off just 68 balls against West Indies. At 21, Riyan Parag has proved that he is one of the best young talents in the country.

Riyan Parag reveals Virat Kohli’s advice:

In a recent interview with the Indian Express, Riyan Parag revealed the advice he received from his idol Virat Kohli during this year’s IPL. As he was going through a lean patch in the competition, the youngster was seen having a candid discussion with the Indian batting superstar.

“Mai puri baat nahi bata paunga (I cannot tell you the exact conversation). He told me ‘something that has worked for half a year cannot be wrong after a few failures.

“What happens in the IPL is that the tournament goes on so fast that after failing in two games, you start to question yourself. Everyone makes mistakes and I have made tons of them. Two-three games don’t go your way and you feel (the need) to change your process and work ethic,” he said.

“It was him telling me that ‘take the reality check and accept that this is a bad phase but it doesn’t mean that you need to change the process that has been working for you’,” he added.
