AUS vs ENG: Nasser Hussain Feels Stuart Broad’s Retirement Will Not Influence James Anderson To Retire

Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain believes that Stuart Broad’s retirement will not influence James Anderson as the veteran pacer will be focused on the job given to him. He remarked that the 41-year-old might wonder after the game how life will be without his best mate.

Nasser Hussain’s comments came following Stuart Broad’s shocking announcement about his retirement at the end of the Day 3 of the ongoing fifth Test of the Ashes 2023 at The Oval. He mentioned that this will be the last game of his career and he decided to hang up his boots.

This will be the last time we will be witnessing Stuart Broad and James Anderson bowling together. The duo has been the backbone of the English team for more than one decade and has taken over 1100 wickets between them. The duo has complimented each other well and it’s fair to say that James Anderson will be missing his best mate.

But Nasser Hussain Feels it won’t sway away James Anderson much but after the ongoing game ends he might take a couple of days and announce his retirement too. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

“I don’t think Broad’s retirement will sway Anderson too much. He will just be concentrating on the job in hand, wondering why he has not got as many wickets as he would like and what he can do this afternoon to (help England).

“At the end of the game it may get him thinking what life will be like without his old mate at the other end, he may think ‘Is it time?’. He may do what others have done -– play the game and then a couple of days later say, ‘I’m done’. There is no right or wrong way.”

AUS vs ENG: England will be worried about the rain – Nasser Hussain

Australia in their chase of 384 runs, Australia have got a great start as both openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja have smashed unbeaten half-centuries. They stitched unbeaten 135 runs in conditions that have nothing for bowlers so far. Rain has arrived too and the halt is expected to a long.

Nasser Hussain feels that England will be worried about rain because it will hamper the conditions and rule out reverse swing from the game. He noted that the hosts might adopt their Pakistan tactics with Mark Wood and Ben Stokes bowling in full throttle. He explained:

“England will be worried about the rain. If Australia chase down 380, you say ‘well done’ but they will be looking at the forecasts. The pace has been sucked out of this pitch – there is no pace in it at all. The problem with holding Wood back is this weather.

“Reverse swing and rain aren’t really friends. When the ground gets wet, the ball gets wet and reverse swing disappears. If it does reverse, England will go their Pakistan tactics with Wood and Stokes, who bowled before play today,” he concluded.
