Speaking on Sky Sports, Broad said that he always wanted to finish at the top. The veteran quick also revealed that after thinking for a couple of weeks he made his decision to retire on Friday evening.

“Tomorrow or Monday will be my last game of cricket,” Broad said. “It’s been a wonderful ride, a huge privilege to wear the Nottinghamshire and England badge for as much as I have.

“I’ve always wanted to finish at the top, and this series just feels like it’s been one of the most enjoyable I’ve been part of.”

“I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of weeks…England versus Australia has always been sort of the pinnacle for me.

“I’ve loved the battles with Australia that have come my way personally, and the team’s way. I’ve got a love affair with Ashes cricket, and I think I wanted my last bat and bowl to be on Ashes cricket.”

Watch – Steve Smith Hilariously Asks James Anderson To Walk Through Guard Of Honour Alongside Stuart Broad

On Day 4 of the 5th Test, Stuart Broad and James Anderson walked down the stairs to bat together for the final time in Test cricket.

The Australians were seen lining up to form a guard of honour to welcome Broad. As the pacers reached the ground, Stuart Broad was seen putting his arm on Anderson’s shoulder to walk together to acknowledge their great partnership over the years, but Anderson stepped back and let Broad walk through the guard of honor.

After Broad almost walked through the guard of honour, Steve Smith and a few other Aussies jokingly encouraged the 41-year-old to walk through it as well.

Notably, Anderson, who is the leading wicket-taker among pacers in Test cricket, has made it very clear that he is in no mood to retire from international cricket, despite his poor form in the ongoing Ashes 2023 series.
