Pakistan batter Abdullah Shafique took a stunning catch in Sri Lanka’s second innings on Day 4 of the first Test match on Wednesday, July 19. Abdullah Shafique grabbed the catch at short leg to dismiss Sadeera Samarawickrama at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.
The Babar Azam-led team are in a dominant position to win the first Test of the two-match series. The Men in Green bowled out Sri Lanka for 279 runs in their second innings. Pakistan required 131 runs to secure their first victory in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

Abdullah Shafique Takes A One-Handed Stunner
The incident occurred in the 56th over of the innings during Agha Salman’s bowling. Sadeera Samarawickrama advanced down the track to play towards the leg side, but the ball took the inside edge. It went to the right side of Abdullah Shafique, who was wrong-footed but still managed to grab it with one hand.
Pakistan’s spinners took eight out of the 10 wickets in Sri Lanka’s second innings on Day 4. Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali picked up three wickets each, while Agha Salman and Shaheen Afridi grabbed two wickets each. Dhananjaya de Silva was the top scorer in their lineup, scoring 82 runs off 118 balls.

Saud Shakeel Smashed Double Hundred
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. The Dimuth Karunaratne-led team scored 312 runs in their first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva shone with the bat and scored a century. He scored 122 runs off 214 and helped the team get a decent score after early wickets.
In response, the Babar Azam-led team put up a mammoth total of 461 runs in their first innings and took a 149-run lead. Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel scored an unbeaten 208 runs off 361 balls. Shakeel played an important role in putting the team in a strong position.
