Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi got to a special milestone on the opening day of the SL vs PAK first Test in Galle. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The Test series is a part of the WTC 2023-25.

Afridi dismissed Sri Lankan opener Nishan Madushka as he got him knicked through to the slips with Sarfaraz Ahmed completing the catch. The strike bowler struck in his very second over to hand his team a massive early advantage.

Unfortunately, the match stopped due to rain immediately after Pakistan made the initial breakthrough. The match was stopped with the Lankans at 18/1 in 5.5 overs.

“Going to bat first. We know how it’s going to be later. There’s going to be turn. In a couple of days it’ll be a spinning paradise. Kasun Rajitha comes in. It’s part of the game. As a professional cricketer, you have to adjust. This is my format” said Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne after winning the toss

“Would’ve also batted first. Pitch looks dry. We have two fast bowlers and two spinners. Shaheen Shah is back. Conditions here always challenge you as a batsman” Pakistan skipper Babar Azam said after losing the toss.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan have a rich history in Test cricket. Both teams have played 57 Test matches between themselves with Pakistan winning 21 matches while Sri Lanka 17. However, beating the Lankans in their own backyard will be tough for the tourists. Both these teams played last time in 2022 with the Test series ending 1-1.
