IND vs WI: Ishan Kishan Set To Make His Test Debut During First Test Against West Indies; Wicketkeeping Skills Against Spinners Remain A Concern

Young Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to make his Test debut during the first match of the upcoming series against the West Indies. As per reports, Ishan Kishan is expected to be preferred over KS Bharat as the wicketkeeper for the series opener in Dominica between July 12 and 17.

Ishan Kishan and KS Bharat were named as wicketkeepers in India’s Test squad. Bharat made his Test debut in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia in Nagpur earlier this year. The team management backed Bharat despite his underwhelming performances with the bat in recent matches.

Ishan Kishan To Make His Test Debut

According to the Indian Express, the team management was reportedly not impressed with KS Bharat’s batting performances in the five matches. They will make the final decision regarding Ishan Kishan’s debut before the match, as they had concerns about his wicketkeeping skills against spinners.

The report added that Ishan was the first-choice wicketkeeper in the squad for the West Indies series, with KS Bharat selected as the second keeper ahead of Upendra Yadav. However, concerns were raised about Kishan’s wicketkeeping, as he doesn’t keep wickets for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy.
