Ashes 2023: Michael Vaughan Lauds Travis Head For Batting Like Ben Stokes At Headingley

Former England captain Michael Vaughan lauded Travis Head for his resilient half-century in Australia’s second innings during the third Test at Headingley in Leeds. Michael Vaughan emphasized the importance of Travis Head’s partnership with Todd Murphy towards the end of the innings.

The Ball Was Swinging Around – Michael Vaughan

In a conversation with Cricbuzz, Michael Vaughan questioned England’s bowling strategy, stating that they could’ve bowled fuller to utilize overcast conditions.

“Travis Head batted like Ben Stokes just for a brief spell. Todd Murphy came there and hung around, that was a key partnership,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

“Was it worth for England to pitch the ball up to Travis Head? Because the ball was swinging around. But they’ve gone for this short ball theory because they think they can get him out and keep him quiet,” he added.

It Was Working Till That Stage – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan believes that the short-ball tactic employed by England worked effectively until the wicket of Todd Murphy.

“It wasn’t really until Todd Murphy arrived that he really started to hit the boundaries. So it ( short ball theory) was working till that stage,” he concluded.

England are in a favorable position to claim their first victory of the Ashes 2023 series as their openers, Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, played the last 25 minutes of play without losing a wicket. England scored 27 runs in 5 overs, leaving them with a target of 224 runs to win the Test match.
