ICC To Approve Highest Revenue Share For BCCI Despite Interventions From Pakistan – Reports

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in PTI, it is learned that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is all set to approve the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) highest share in the Revenue despite interventions from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The reports suggested that ICC will give nod ahead to India during their annual meeting, slated to take place in Durban. ICC recently revealed the revenue distribution model for international cricket.

Pakistan was subjected to just a share of 5.75% in the ICC revenue distribution whereas, on the other hand, India will receive a share of 38.50% in the upcoming Finance Model for 2024-2027. This didn’t go well with PCB as they questioned ICC for the revenue distribution and said that they should get more revenue as it’s biased towards India.

But ICC officials mentioned that they give the revenue share based on media rights revenues and viewership. Talking about the same, the official told PTI:

“Look, if one tries to go by percentages, the revenue distribution might look unfair with India getting 38.5 percent and ECB getting 6.89 and Cricket Australia receiving 6.25 percent. One should look at from the quantum of revenue angle.

“The percentages are calculated based on the contribution to the game through cricket (rankings), performance (at ICC events) and commercial (media rights revenues and viewership), so it’s based on what they are contributing to the overall health of the game.”

Future of ODIs To be discussed by the ICC as well

The growing advent of T20s has put the ODI format under the scanner. Many greats of the game have raised calls to shorten the game and reduce it to 40 overs. The reports also suggested that ICC is likely to discuss the future of bilateral ODIs in the post-2027 FTP cycle.

ICC Board member admitted that seven-hour ODIs are no Longer Money Spinners and the value of bilateral ODIs is becoming lesser. He explained:

“Even potential broadcasters want the focus to be on big ticket Test series and T20 series. The seven-hour ODIs and the inconsequential bilateral events are no longer money spinners. The member nations need to deliberate hard on that aspect.

“Case in point was a 50-over series between England and Australia right after the T20 World Cup last year. Very few remember what happened. The recall value of bilateral ODIs is becoming lesser.”

Apart from this, ICC will also address the restrictions on the number of T20 leagues that one can play.
