With England on the verge of losing another Ashes Series, their skipper Ben Stokes has urged his teammates to use the pain of losing the second Test as motivation to turn things around.
England are trailing the five-match series by 2-0 after suffering a 43-run defeat in the second Test at Lord’s. The Ben Stokes-led side now needs to win all of the remaining three Tests to win the series and reclaim the Ashes for the first time since the 2017/18 season.

England have not won the Ashes since 2015 and they need to do something really special to end their winless streak this year. To date, Only one team has ever come from 2-0 down to win an Ashes series and it happened way back in 1936/37 when Australia won the series thanks to legendary Don Bradman’s stunning exploits with the bat.

Ben Stokes’ message for England teammates:
While only time will tell how the series ends, Ben Stokes has not given up on the hope of winning it despite all the odds against his team. The talismanic allrounder has urged his teammates to use the defeat in the second Test as fuel to mount a historic comeback.

Following Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the first session, Stokes took his frustrations out on the Australian bowlers by playing one of the best Test knocks of all time. The England captain launched a stunning assault and nearly snatched a miraculous win for his team. The left-hander smashed 155 runs before being sent back by Josh Hazlewood.
“We won 3-0 against Pakistan and New Zealand last year. All we’re thinking about is winning the series 3-2,” Ben Stokes said.
“Losing’s losing. The emotions will always be the same but when you sit back and understand where we’re at, it’s actually very exciting. The way in which we are playing our cricket couldn’t be more perfect for the situation we find ourselves in.
“We have to win these three games to get this urn back. We’re a team who are obviously willing to put ourselves out there and do things against the narrative,” he added.
The next Test is scheduled to be played at Headingley, the same venue where Stokes’ iconic 135-run knock had helped England register an unbelievable win over Australia four years ago. And the England star is hopeful that his team can feed off the energy of the notoriously raucous Headingley crowd.
“I could see it was ramping up and getting a bit vocal,” Stokes said.
“I’d never heard Lord’s like it. It was pretty mad wasn’t it? Lord’s has a reputation of not having so much noise, so it was good to hear.”
“We like playing at Headingley as a team but I don’t think the grounds that we play at next really matter. We know we’ve got to win the next three games to win the Ashes back,” he added.
