Joe Root grabbed the stunning catch during the Day 4 of the Test match to send back in-form Travis Head to the dugout for 7. Head batted with aggressive intent in Australia’s first innings and scored 77 runs at a strike rate of 105.48. He hit 14 boundaries during his knock and his early dismissal came as a blow to the visitors in the second innings.

On the 3rd ball of the 68th over, Stuart Broad delivered a short ball around chest height to Head. The batter only managed to fend it away and the ball went to the left of the short leg where Root completed a spectacular one-handed catch. Joe Root Becomes England’s Leading Outfield Catcher Of All Time In Test Cricket

The catch to dismiss Head was Joe Root’s 176 catch in the longest format of the game. Now, he has becomes the leading outfield catcher of the England National Cricket Team in Test cricket, breaking the record held by legendary batter Alastair Cook.

Notably, Cook held the record for being the highest catcher for England in Test cricket for a very long time with 175 catches to his name. Other England fielders with the most catches on the outfield in Test cricket are Andrew Strauss (121), Ian Botham (120), and Colin Cowdrey (120).
