Stuart Broad was the shining light for England on the Day 2 of the ongoing test. After England declared their innings on 393 runs, the lanky pacer bowled impeccable lines and lengths in the morning session and tested the Australian openers even on the flat pitch.

Stuart Broad drew the first blood for his side as he removed David Warner for the record 15th time in the Tests. He bowled a good delivery outside off and the batter threw his hands at it and got the under-edge to only see his stumps rattling for 9 runs.

Talking about the wicket of David Warner, Stuart Broad said that he wanted to create the pressure and on this pitch, he would take the chop on because it isn’t the kind of surface where the ball would seam and swing.

Speaking to England cricket, he said: “It’s obviously quite a slow pitch, so I think as a bowler you take those chop ons and because it’s not a sort of pitch where you’ll get loads of play and missed with seam and swing so I think you have to create pressure and hit the pitch as much as you can and then hope for a little bit of indifferent bounce.

“It was great to get Davey out. It has been a great battle with him over the years and it’s always nice to strike in the first innings of the series.”

Ashes 2023: Stuart Broad on dismissing Marnus Labuschagne

While the wicket of David Warner was not enough for Stuart Broad, he went on to remove Marnus Labuschagne on the very next ball. He bowled a pitched-up delivery outside off, to which the batter tried to play a loose drive and the ball caught the edge and went to the right of Jonny Bairstow who dived across for a one-handed grab.

Stuart Broad said that it was important for him to execute his place because it’s a kind of surface where it is difficult to remove set batters. He said that they are delighted to pick both their main batters cheaply.

He said: “It was good. When you set a plan then you want to try to execute for work it straightway. It was brilliant, a bit wide of the crease pushing in towards the stumps and getting it to leave. It was a great catch from Jonny, did him a lot of good”.

“It was a sort of pitch where if someone like Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith get set it’d be really hard to remove as we saw with Uzzy. Delighted to pick those two up relatively cheap,” he concluded.
