The Ashes 2023 saw an emotional bat-throwing celebration by Usman Khawaja that caught the attention of many, including Alex Carey. Speaking about Khawaja’s unique way of celebrating, Carey stated that he had never seen a bat throw like that before.

Carey, who has played alongside Khawaja in the Australian team, acknowledged that the emotions of the moment had gotten the better of Khawaja, and the bat throw was a reflection of that.

Khawaja finished the day unbroken on 126, saving Australia from an early collapse in response to England’s 393/8 declare in the series opener.

For those who are unaware, Khawaja was ecstatic to reach his ton and even threw his bat into the air as he turned to face the dressing room. Initially, thanks to Stuart Broad’s early wickets, England had the advantage. After tea, though, things began to change as Travis Head launched a counterattack, putting Moeen Ali under pressure but Khawaja remained steadfast. Despite England’s lost opportunities, Australia came out on top in the day’s play. Despite taking two wickets, Moeen Ali gave up runs, which helped Australia put the game away.

“It’s one of the best innings we’ve seen recently” – Alex Carey On Usman Khawaja

Alex Carey, an Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, recently lauded Usman Khawaja’s excellent effort, calling it “one of the best innings we’ve seen recently.” Khawaja finished the day unbeaten on 126, demonstrating his great technical ability as well as his perseverance.

Throughout his innings, Usman Khawaja maintained a consistent and methodical approach, responding well to the pitch’s conditions and the opposition’s challenges.

“Usman Khawaja’s very chilled out, and obviously he didn’t score many runs; he probably would have liked to score more in the WTC Final, but he worked hard and faced lots of balls in the nets.

“As we know, the passion he has for the game is absolutely amazing. It’s one of the best innings we’ve seen recently. In India and also, as we saw all the way through the summer, he scored lots of runs for us. He just keeps getting better and better lately,” Alex Carey said in a conversation with cricket.com.au

“I’ve never seen a bat throw like that after scoring the century. It’s a unique celebration, but I guess when you score a century in a country, you probably have the best time, and we also saw how much it was needed for him” Alex Carey added.
